Our Life at Landsmiths series gives you the chance to get to know the people behind our firm, their career journeys and what they enjoy about working in property law.
In this Q&A, we speak to Associate Solicitor Alicia Hunter about her journey into residential conveyancing, her career progression at Landsmiths and the advice she would give to those starting out in the legal profession.

What path led you into residential property law?
“I always thought that I would qualify into a more contentious area of law –
my Dad says I have an answer for everything and that I always have to have the last word! However, after
doing a seat in Family Law and having to be in Court, I made the decision that I (surprisingly) am not a litigator.
Residential Property is process-driven, and I am a methodical thinker, so the two go hand in hand.
Remembering what it feels like as a buyer to receive the call that completion
has taken place and keys can be collected makes it all worthwhile!”
How long have you been at Landsmiths, and how has your role evolved since joining?
“I joined Landsmiths in June 2020, after being made redundant during Covid as a Solicitor.
I was made an Associate Solicitor in 2025, and I am also a Training Mentor for Evie, one of our Trainee Solicitors.”
What achievement are you most proud of so far?
“There are three achievements I am particularly proud of:
1. In 2023, I won the “Rising Star of the Year” award at the Modern Law Conveyancing Awards.
2. Being asked to be a Training Mentor for Evie.
3. I was the ‘top biller’ for the last financial year.”
What advice would you give to someone starting their legal career?
“Have confidence in yourself, you will probably know more than you think, but do not be afraid to say that you will look into something or check with your Supervisor and revert. It’s better than giving an incorrect answer and having to go back to say you were wrong!
Ask questions – no one knows the answer to everything! Learn from the people around you.
Find somewhere that feels right for you – we spend so much time at work, if you can surround yourself with people who will teach you, support you and celebrate your wins alongside you, then you know you’ve found the right place!”
After finding her place in residential property law and becoming an award-winning Associate Solicitor, Alicia’s career reflects the importance of finding a role that suits your strengths and continuing to develop along the way.
